RICHMOND, Va. –
Col. Andrew M. Weidner will succeed Col. Brock E. Lange as the commander of the Virginia Air National Guard’s 192nd Wing at Joint Base Langley Eustis in Hampton, Virginia, according to an announcement made Feb. 25, 2025, by Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia. The projected effective assignment date is Sept. 6, 2025, and details for a change of command ceremony will be announced in the coming months.
Weidner is currently the commander of the 192nd Operations Group which is comprised of the 149th Fighter Squadron, 192nd Operation Support Squadron, 185th Cyberspace Operations Squadron, 192nd Intelligence Squadron and 200th Weather Flight. He is responsible for ensuring the readiness of 300 National Guard Airmen in more than 18 Air Force specialty codes.
Weidner commissioned in the Air Force in 2003 after graduating from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He earned his pilot wings in 2005 upon completion of undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Missouri.
Weidner graduated the F-15C Basic Course at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, and he was assigned to the 493rd Fighter Squadron, 48th Fighter Wing, Royal Air Force at Lakenheath, United Kingdom. There he served as the chief of life support and flew F-15Cs in support of presidential protection in the Baltic States as well as multiple North Atlantic Treaty Organization exercises.
Following his tour in the United Kingdom, he was assigned to the 27th Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Wing, at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where he upgraded to F-22 evaluator pilot and participated in several United States Pacific Command Theatre Security Packages. He served as the deputy chief of wing plans and programs, flight commander and assistant director of operations.
In July of 2013, Weidner was assigned as assistant director of operations for the 90th Fighter Squadron, 3rd Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. In two years, he led F-22A missions in multiple coalition and joint exercises, culminating in being the 90th fighter squadron chief of standardization and evaluation.
In November 2015, Weidner joined the Virginia Air National Guard’s 149th Fighter Squadron as a dual-status drill status Airman and federal military technician. He has served as an assistant director of operations, and he transitioned to Active Guard and Reserve status in 2016.
During his time in the Virginia Air National Guard, he served as a director of operations, deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, led multiple Operation Noble Eagle sorties and participated in many joint and multi-national exercises. Prior to his current position, he was the deputy commander of the 192nd Operations Group.
Weidner is a command pilot with more than 1,600 flying hours in fighter aircraft, including leading missions in multiple in and out of the United States exercises and participating in deployments to include Operation Inherent Resolve.
Weidner earned Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2000 from Ohio State University, and he is a graduate of Aerospace Basic Course, Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, Air National Guard Squadron Commanders Course and Air War College.
