VNG’s 116th IBCT field tests new mobile brigade combat team organization during XCTC rotation
Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and task organized as a multifunction reconnaissance company kick off an area reconnaissance training lane June 17, 2025, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. The 116th is the first Army National Guard brigade to test a prototype task organization for a mobile brigade combat team, and the MFRC brings together Soldiers from the brigade’s cavalry squadron, artillery battalion, unmanned aircraft system and electronic warfare platoons from the engineer battalion to provide reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting in the brigade deep area. The MBCT is being evaluated during a 21-day eXportable Combat Training Capability rotation.
