Soldiers return to Christiansburg after tour of duty in Iraq

Christiansburg, Virginia - Family, friends and members of the community welcome home about 105 Soldiers from the Christiansburg-based Company C, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment Dec. 12, 2011, as they returned to Virginia after serving in Iraq since August 2011. The Soldiers are part of a group of about 825 Soldiers from across the commonwealth who mobilized June 1 for duty in Iraq as Task Force 183 under the command of the Portsmouth-based 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry Regiment. Approximately 1,100 Virginia National Guard Soldiers are scheduled to return from Iraq in December. After those 1,100 Soldiers have returned, about 260 Virginia Guard Soldiers and Airmen will still be on federal active duty in Afghanistan and other locations across the world.
