Fireworks return to Fort Barfoot after 18 years

BLACKSTONE, Va. - Fort Barfoot partners with the Blackstone Chamber of Commerce and numerous community organizations to return fireworks to the installation July 2, 2024, at the historic Blackstone Army Airfield and Allan C. Perkinson Airport. Multiple Virginia National Guard units stationed at Fort Barfoot and Blackstone brought out static displays to educate visitors about their missions and capabilities including the Virginia Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion, 34th Civil Support Team, 3647th Maintenance Company, Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site and Fort Barfoot Fire and Emergency Services. Col. James C. Shaver Jr., the Fort Barfoot garrison commander, kicked off the fireworks show by blank firing a towed 75mm salute howitzer hauled by an M151A2 Jeep.
