FORT PICKETT, Virginia - Virginia National Guard Soldiers complete the final ruck march of the “Last Ride,” the final Spur Ride conducted by the Portsmouth-based 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry Regiment, 116th Mobile Brigade Combat Team Aug. 10, 2026, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. Led by squadron commander Maj. Paul Marcinko, participants completed the march as the culminating event of the multi-day Spur Ride, which challenged “shave tails” through a series of tasks designed to test their mental and physical fortitude. As the squadron moves toward inactivation as part of the Army Transformation Initiative, the final march marked the end of the Last Ride and one of the final opportunities for troopers past and present to come together and carry forward the history, traditions and esprit de corps of the squadron.
