VaARNG aviation safety event highlights readiness, risk management

FORT LEE, Va. - Virginia Army National Guard aviation Soldiers participate in the 2026 Aviation Safety Standdown Sept. 12, 2026, at Fort Lee, Virginia. The event brought together senior leaders and experienced aviators to reinforce safety, risk management, adherence to standards and readiness across the aviation community. Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia, and Col. Craig Lewis, the State Aviation Officer, gave remarks during the event. The Louisiana Army National Guard’s Chief Warrant Officer 5 Thomas Wilson and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Dino Parmentier shared lessons learned from a fatal 2015 UH-60M Black Hawk training accident and discussed the importance of recognizing and interrupting the chain of events that can lead to an accident.
