POSITION TITLE: Company Commander
GRADE: O3/ CPT

UNIT: C Co, Recruiting and Retention Battalion
WHO MAY APPLY: Open to all AGR/Military Technician/Traditional/Active Duty Officers of any Armed
Forces in the grades of O2/1LT - O3/CPT who are able to meet the requirements to become members
of the Virginia Army National Guard.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet all selection criteria IAW NGR 601-1, NGR 600-200, NGR
600-5, AR 600-60, AR 600-8-2, AR 40-501 and AR 135-18.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and Command Charlie Company, VAARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion, comprising of 59
NCO's by communicating the mission, vision, values, and goals that support the BN and Adjutant
General. Ensure the policies and procedures of the United States Army and the Virginia Army National
Guard are followed and enforced. Advise and support the Battalion Commander to effectively meet the
state's Strength Maintenance Plan of recruitment and retention efforts. Supports and advises the state's
BN and Company Commanders. Supports TAG vision in filling VAARNG with highly qualified, ready,
relevant and resilient Soldiers. Reach out and coordinate with external agencies and components.

SPECIAL INFORMATION
Applicant must be able to reach 20 years Active Federal Service (AFS) before the Mandatory
Removal Date (MRD).
• Applicant must possess or be able to possess a SECRET clearance
• Applicant must possess and maintain an active government travel card.
• Must have a passing ACFT/AFT and Height & Weight within 6 months of the submission of your
application.

• The start date is contingent on availability of funding from NGB.
• Individuals must not be under Suspension of Favorable Personnel Actions (Flag).
• If selected, must complete the ARNG Recruiting and Retention Company Pre-Command Course
within six months of assignment or first available course.
• If selected, must complete the Army Personnel Suitability Screening with favorable results.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Position requires a “SECRET” security clearance. Must be able to obtain as a minimum, an “interim” clearance prior to appointment to the position. Soldiers with a prior revoked or denied clearance are not eligible for either an interim or a waiver and should not apply. If tentatively selected for a position and soldier cannot be granted an interim clearance prior to appointment to the position, the offer for the position maybe revoked, Non-USA citizens are not eligible for a security clearance per DOD 5200.2R.
