SMR LODGING UPDATE - APRIL 2026

SMR Lodging Programs operational changes will occur starting 18 April 2026 in preparation of the 30 April 2026 shutdown of the Front Desk Anywhere Hotel system. 

Please be patient as we work through this conversion. Hopefully we will have a new cloud-based hotel system in a few months.

  • 0645 – 1630 (Monday – Friday)
  • 0645 – 1530 (Saturday – Sunday)
  1. Reservations will be taken from 0800 – 1430 Monday – Friday only. No reservations will be taken on Saturday and Sunday. 
  2. Any e-mail (smrlodgingprogram@gmail.com) or phone call (757-493-3125/3126/3127/3129) received after 1430 (Monday-Friday) requesting a reservation will be booked the next workday.
  3. Any e-mail (smrlodgingprogram@gmail.com) or phone call (757-493-3125/3126/3127/3129) or walk-in received on Saturday or Sunday requesting a reservation will need to call back or physically come back the following Monday. 
  4. E-mails requesting reservations are discouraged and an email reply will be sent requesting a phone call. We will not have a guest database and everyone will have to have a new profile built for each reservation.
  5. No guest will receive a confirmation email for a booked reservation. 
  6. Payment receipt will be given to guest when they pay. In addition, they should hold on to the receipt or produce another receipt after departure.
Lodging at the State Military Reservation

SMR guests will notice an ongoing construction presence through 2026. However, restrictions during prior construction years will be reduced this year. For personal safety please note and ensure your adherence to the following guidance.
 
  • SMR is an active work zone with construction traffic. Please be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the Post and traveling along SMR’s roads. Do not walk/run on roads with earbuds.
  • Do not enter work zones marked by orange fencing or barriers.
  • Please do not disturb the grass restoration areas or other environmental protections.
  • SMR Beach is only open to Virginia National Guard Personnel, Authorized Cottage Guests, and Post Customers when not in use for official training maneuvers (SMR Operations/Lodging Program will provide training/event notifications).
  • SMR Beach will ONLY be Accessed by an authorized licensed motor vehicle on Rifle Range Road to the Beach Parking Lot because of CVOW Construction traffic and the condition of the Range Road.
  • The usage of skateboards, scooters, and hover boards are NOT allowed on SMR.
  • Guests with RVs, campers, boats, and utility trailers MUST gain approval PRIOR to arrival from SMR HQ Operations. Please call 757-493-3121 for approval and for parking instructions, Mon – Fri 0800-1600.
  • Adherence to the SMR Post Commander and TAG’s Command Policy Letters are mandatory for all guests. Examples: Post Parking, Electric Vehicles, Alcohol and Tobacco, Inclement Weather, Physical Training (Official use only), and Serious Incident Reporting (Official use only).
Due to the reduction of construction in 2026 we are removing some restrictions. The restrictions lifted are as follows:
  • Freshwater and Saltwater fishing is allowed, with a valid Virginia freshwater and saltwater fishing permit.   
  • Lake Christine is open for recreational use, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and boating (less than 16’ no gas motors). Exception: No swimming allowed and no fishing from C110 & C99 piers unless you are renting those units.
  • Bicycling and walking on Post are allowed. Exception: no bicycling and walking on Rifle Range Road to and from beach.

SMR Access

The State Military Reservation’s (SMR) primary mission is as a training facility. Because of training and ongoing long-term construction projects, we have a limited access policy. The SMR gym, beach and fishing access are only open to the following:

  • Current members, employees and retirees of the Virginia Army National Guard, Virginia Air National Guard, Virginia Defense Force, and Virginia Department of Military Affairs (Government issued ID or proof of status is required)
  • Unit personnel from any component conducting approved training at SMR
  • Guests with valid reservations to stay in SMR Cottages, Trailers, Apartments or Billeting
