1. The Virginia National Guard license plate is a great benefit offered to all Virginia National Guard Service Members (SM).
2. Virginia National Guard SMs are entitled to receive up to two sets of Virginia National Guard license plates from the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the first set is free, and the second set is at half price.

3. License plates 1-100 and 101-1500 are reissued in order from lowest to highest, based on the rank of the SM (higher rank receives lower number). For inclusion in the reissue cycle, SMs must apply by the 27 February 2026 suspense. SMs can apply for new Virginia Guard License Plates throughout the year.
4. Registration for license Plates 1-100, is required annually. The current registration for license plates 1-100 will expire 31 March 2026. The suspense date for applications is 27 February 2026. Do not go online or visit DMV to apply or renew 1-100 plates. Please scan and submit documents to Ms. Cooper at shirley.l.cooper.nfg@army.mil:
a. Renewal and initial issue. Complete DMV Form 10, write the SMs pay grade and date of rank in the upper right-hand corner.
b. If this is an initial guard plate application, also complete DMV Form 14, with the SMs pay grade and date of rank in the upper right-hand corner.
c. Copy of the registration for each vehicle.
5. This is not a reissue year for plates 101-1500. SM with plates 101-1500 may go online to renew or can scan the paperwork in paragraph 4 to Ms. Cooper. If you renew your registration online, please notify Ms. Cooper by e-mail.
6. Initial Issue of National Guard Plates 1-100 or 101-1500. SMs who are requesting an initial issue of plates 1-100 or 101-1500, must send the documents in paragraph 4 to Ms. Cooper.
7. Enlisted personnel desiring guard license plates will need to contact Ms. Cooper to get the AG of VA Form 66 to apply for plates.
8. Retired personnel desiring retiree license plates will need to contact Ms. Cooper to get the AG of VA Form 66 to apply for retired plates.
9. Personnel retiring will need to replace their plates with a retired Guard plate or a regular plate from DMV. Please contact Ms. Cooper for assistance.
10. Please inform Ms. Cooper if you remove or transfer National Guard license plates.
