Fort Barfoot celebrates Earth Day with beautification projects

FORT BARFOOT, Va. - Virginia National Guard Soldiers and civilian staff assigned to Fort Barfoot complete several beautification projects around the installation in honor of Earth Day April 20, 2023, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. Col. James Shaver, the Fort Barfoot garrison commander, and Maj. Jason Simulcik, the Fort Barfoot Headquarters Company commander, planted shrubs at the Fort Barfoot sign near the intersection Cox and Military Roads in coordination with Ted Costin, the Nottoway County Administrator. Staff from around the installation also planted various vegetables in the Fort Barfoot community garden, and new birdhouses were erected at the garden site. In addition, Training Support Center and range operations staff planted an American flag flower bed outside of the TSC, and range staff also conducted a litter pickup around the Nottoway Reservoir.
