192nd Wing

The 192nd Wing, Virginia Air National Guard, mission is to provide a fully-trained organization of volunteer-Airmen dedicated to protect and defend the vital interests of the nation, state and community. The wing provides combat-ready personnel and equipment to support United States’ national security objectives in a federal capacity; protects life and property and preserves peace, order and safety in a state capacity; and participates in local, state and national programs that add value to the U.S. in a community capacity.
The 192nd FW is headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. In addition to state missions, the wing associates with the regular Air Force, spanning three major commands, and performs standalone federal missions. The wing is comprised of four groups assigned to specific areas of expertise required to execute the missions: 192nd Operations Group, 192nd Maintenance Group, 192nd Mission Support Group and 192nd Medical Group.

The 192nd OG directly supports the USAF’s mission in the air, space and cyber domains. In 2017, they mobilized for six months to support Operation Inherent Resolve. During this deployment, they flew 534 F-22 Raptor flights, 4600 combat hours and dropped 263 bombs, executing a critical role in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The 192nd MXG provides combat-ready personnel and aircraft maintenance to the F-22 Raptor mission. During 2017, MXG launched 5,390 sorties for more than 11,525 F-22 hours flown. They supported the 27th Aircraft Maintenance Unit Theater Security Package in Southwest Asia. Additionally, they executed a short-notice generation of six F-22 aircraft over the 4th of July holiday to bolster the 5th generation presence in the United States Central Command area of responsibility, all in support of fight against ISIS.

The 192nd MSG provides three combat-ready squadrons specializing in civil engineering, supply, security, services, contracting, personnel, communications and logistics plans support. In 2017, they supported multinational exercises including Atlantic Trident and Northern Edge. They backed Operation Inherent Resolve and processed 107 spare repairs supporting 1,200 combat air strikes and the destruction of numerous ISIS facilities. 192nd MSG defenders deployed to several locations in Southwest Asia.

The 192nd MDG ensures a healthy and mission ready force. In 2017, they supported the presidential and gubernatorial inauguration, completed a CERFP exercise with their Army counterpart and supported exercise Vigilant Guard. The 192nd MDG was rated number one in the Drug Demand Reduction Program and number two in the region for mission readiness.

Virginia National Guard Airmen assigned to the 192nd Wing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis enabled rapid deployment of F-22 Raptors to Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates as part of a multifaceted demonstration of U.S. support after a series of attacks throughout January 2022 threatened U.S. and Emirati armed forces stationed at the host installation. VNG supports 75th Virginia Gubernatorial Inauguration

Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen supported the inauguration of Abigail Spanberger as the 75th Governor of Virginia Jan. 17, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia. VNG personnel conducted a variety of missions including a blank-fire artillery salute, playing ceremonial music and conducting a flyover with F-22 fighter jets. A formation of Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen also led the inaugural parade.

John Crocker, the State Military Reservation commander, recognize and thank DMA state employees for their hard work and dedication during an employee appreciation luncheon Dec. 19, 2025, at the State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. During the luncheon several DMA employees were recognized for their years of service to the organization. New senior noncommissioned officers are taking responsibility in the Virginia Army and Air National Guards, according to announcements made by Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia.

A contingent of Virginia Air National Guard personnel spent time observing PROTECTIVE FENCE 2025, a major exercise conducted by the Finnish Air Force to test its air component readiness Sept. 22 - 26, 2025, in Finland. Ten Airmen traveled to Finland with the goal of identifying and sharing best practices across the key functional areas of flying operations, maintenance, force protection and intelligence. The exercise provided an opportunity to directly examine Finnish tactics related to agile combat employment, or ACE.

VaANG’s Bosslift event enhances military-civilian partnerships

Strengthening ties between the military and civilian sectors, the 192nd Wing, Virginia Air National Guard, hosted the 2025 Bosslift event on Sept. 6 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia. Organized by the VaANG Military and Family Readiness office and the Virginia Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR, this event provided civilian employers with an opportunity to experience firsthand the training and dedication of their Air National Guard employees. The 2025 Bosslift, part of the Virginia ESGR outreach, aimed to bridge the gap between civilian workplaces and National Guard responsibilities.

Virginia Air National Guard welcomes its first Warrant Officer

The 192nd Wing, Virginia Air National Guard’s Chief Warrant Officer 2 J. Anthony Dell graduated from Warrant Officer Training School May 21, 2025, at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. He returned to the VaANG and is serving as the wing’s first warrant officer since the U.S. Air Force discontinued the rank in 1959.

Batterton succeeds Jumper to lead Virginia Air National Guard

Brig. Gen. Christopher Batterton succeeded Brig. Gen. Catherine Jumper as commander of the Virginia Air National Guard effective Sept. 6, 2025, and Jumper assumed responsibilities as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air Strategic Initiatives.

Virginia Air National Guard’s Eleanor Warren named among USAF’s top 12 Airmen of 2025

The U.S. Air Force announced the service’s 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2025, including members from across active duty, the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve. Among those named is the Virginia Air National Guard’s Senior Airman Eleanor R. Warren, a geospatial intelligence analyst assigned to the 192nd Wing’s Intelligence Squadron.
