Virginia National Guard Soldiers ended their missions in Southwest Virginia Feb. 23, 2025, after deploying to the area Feb. 14 to assist local emergency managers supporting citizens impacted by severe weather and power outages.

134th Chaplain Detachment supports 1st ID at National Training Center

Three Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Fort Barfoot-based 134th Chaplain Detachment traveled to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, Jan. 17- 31, 2025, where they provided chaplain support to the Fort Riley- based 1st Infantry Division during its NTC training rotation.

Reed Jr. during a ceremony March 1, 2025, at the Virginia National Guard Sgt. Bob Slaughter Headquarters at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Brig. Gen. Charles B. Martin Jr. , Commander of the Virginia Army National Guard, presided over the ceremony which included an exchange of colors representing the change of responsibility from Reed to Hawley. Reed was also recognized for retiring with more than 38 years of service. The Troutville-based 29th Infantry Division Band provided music for the event. Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy M. Hawley took responsibility as the Virginia Army National Guard State Command Sergeant Major from Command Sgt. Maj. Irving N. Reed Jr. during a ceremony March 1, 2025, at the Virginia National Guard Sgt. Bob Slaughter Headquarters at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia.

The Virginia National Guard Management Group, in coordination with the Virginia National Guard, host the National Guard Arctic Interest Council annual conference February. 11 and 12, 2025, in Springfield, Virginia. Military and civilian entities including the VNG, other NGAIC states, U.S. Army North and several civilian vendors participated in the conference, as did contingents from allied nations including Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. The VNG is formal partners with Finland through the State Partnership Program.

The Virginia National Guard Management Group, in coordination with the Virginia National Guard, hosted the National Guard Arctic Interest Council annual conference Feb. 11 - 12, 2025, in Springfield, Virginia.

Lee, an internationally-known expert in cybersecurity and operational technology, is the first cyber professional to direct commission to lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard.

Virginia Army National Guard senior leaders and Soldiers assigned to Joint Force Headquarters participate in Building Strong and Ready Teams training conducted by the Virginia Army National Guard Chaplain Corps Mar. 1, 2025, at the VNG’s Sgt. Bob Slaughter Headquarters at Defense Supply Center, Virginia. The main objective of the training is to increase Soldier and family holistic health by strengthening Soldier and family structure through evidence-based relationship training, and improving quality of life by providing skills necessary to endure adversity. Virginia National Guard Soldiers and senior leaders assigned to Joint Force Headquarters gathered to participate in Building Strong and Ready Teams training conducted by the Virginia Army National Guard Chaplain Corps March 1, 2025, at the VNG Sgt. Bob Slaughter Headquarters at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia.  

Chief Master Sgt. John F. Nye will succeed Chief Master Sgt. Kelly B. Reich as the Virginia National Guard Command Senior Enlisted Leader according to an announcement made Feb. 28, 2025, by Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia. The assignment is effective March 15, and a change of responsibility ceremony is scheduled for April 12.

Col. Andrew M. Weidner will succeed Col. Brock E. Lange as the commander of the Virginia Air National Guard’s 192nd Wing at Joint Base Langley Eustis in Hampton, Virginia, according to an announcement made Feb. 25, 2025, by Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia. The projected effective assignment date is Sept. 6, 2025, and details for a change of command ceremony will be announced in the coming months. Weidner to succeed Lange as commander of 192nd Wing. Weidner is currently the commander of the 192nd Operations Group which is comprised of the 149th Fighter Squadron, 192nd Operation Support Squadron, 185th Cyberspace Operations Squadron, 192nd Intelligence Squadron and 200th Weather Flight. He is responsible for ensuring the readiness of 300 National Guard Airmen in more than 18 Air Force specialty codes.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen conducted an exchange with the Republic of Tajikistan focusing on noncommissioned officer and junior officer development Feb. 17-21, 2025, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The exchange was conducted in support of the Department of Defense‘s State Partnership program, in which Virginia and Tajikistan have been partners since 2003.
