192nd Intel Squadron welcomes new commander

Lt. Col. Chris Batterton assumed command of the 192nd Fighter Wing Intelligence Squadron from Lt. Col. David Lands during a ceremony held June 25, 2016, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

“Col. Bunting and I entrust [Lt. Col. Batterton] with enabling the 192nd Intel Squadron to continue to establish dominance in the ISR realm,” said Col. Bryan “Coho” Salmon, 192nd FW Operations Group commander. “He is an extremely talented officer, leader and communicator who displays vision, creativity, empathy and humility – all of which will make him an effective commander.”

Batterton joined the 192nd FW, 149th Fighter Squadron from active duty in 2009. He came to us from the 1st FW, 27th FS at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where he participated in several deployments and exercises to include supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. To date, he has accumulated more than 1,800 flying hours.

“The 192nd Intelligence Squadron’s commitment to excellence exhibited every day is nothing short of incredible,” said Batterton. “I look forward to working with each of you and our Total Force Integration partners to build on your successes and continue to hone our skills in support of our mission.”

Batterton was commissioned in 1999 after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in legal studies. He earned his pilot wings in 2000 as a distinguished graduate upon completion of Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, Oklahoma. In 2002, Batterton served as an instructor pilot and mission commander at the 79th FS at Shaw, AFB, South Carolina. He earned multiple flying awards including Overall Top Gun of the 79th FW in 2003 and Flight Lead of the year in 2004 for the 20th FW, Shaw AFB, SC. In 2005, he transitioned to the F-22A.
