SANDSTON, Va. –
High performing Virginia Army and Air National Guard units were recognized at the Virginia National Guard Officer and Enlisted Association Conferences April 30, 2016, in Hampton and Newport News, Virginia.
The Christiansburg-based Company C, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team received the Eisenhower Trophy as the top company-level unit in the Virginia Army National Guard, and the Martinsville-based 1173rd Transportation Company, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group was presented the Adjutant General’s Cup. The Gate City-based Headquarters Detachment, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group received the state-level National Guard Pershing Trophy and Certificate of Victory for marksmanship. Multiple units were recognized for earning the Superior Unit Award and Excellence in Training Award.
The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award was presented to the 192nd Fighter Wing and Air Force Meritorious Unit Award was presented to the 192nd Intelligence Squadron, 192nd Fighter Wing.
The Draper Armor Leadership Unit Award was presented to A Troop, 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
The Eisenhower Trophy recognizes the most outstanding company-level unit in the Virginia Army National Guard during the training year and is presented to the unit that ranks the highest in areas of assigned personnel strength, percentage of personnel qualified in their duty position, attendance at monthly drill weekends and annual training, individual weapons qualification scores and physical fitness test scores.
The Adjutant General’s Cup is awarded to the unit achieving the highest overall average in the areas of overall assigned personnel strength, attendance at monthly drill weekends and attendance at annual training, and both units tied in the evaluation criteria.
The state-level Pershing Award is presented for the highest marksmanship scores in the Virginia Army National Guard in annual qualification with assigned individual weapons.
The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award recognizes units for exceptional meritorious conduct during military operations against an armed enemy of the United States on or after September 11, 2001. In order to earn this award, a unit must display such outstanding devotion and superior performance of exceptionally difficult tasks as to set it apart and above other units with similar missions. The degree of achievement required is the same as that which would warrant award of the Legion of Merit.
The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award recognizes numbered units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units. The services include: performance of exceptionally meritorious service, accomplishment of a specific outstanding achievement of national or international significance, combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, or military operations involving conflict with or exposure to hostile actions by an opposing foreign force.
The Draper Armor Leadership Unit Award is presented in each region of the country to the Army National Guard armor company or cavalry troop based on physical fitness, individual weapons qualification, crew-served weapons qualification, Excellence in Armor, safety and maintenance.
To earn the Superior Unit Award, a unit must maintain an assigned strength of 95 percent of authorized each month of the training year for which being nominated, maintain monthly drill attendance of 95 percent, attain annual training attendance of 95 percent, have 95 percent of all assigned personnel qualify with their assigned weapon and have 90 percent of all assigned personnel pass the Army Physical Fitness Test. Superior unit awards were presented to the following units:

– Bowling Green-based Headquarters Detachment, 91st Troop Command
To earn the Excellence in Training Award, a unit must have 90 percent of all personnel qualified in their military occupational specialty, have 95 percent of all personnel present for annual training or receive constructive credit for AT attendance, maintain monthly drill attendance of 90 percent, have 95 percent of all assigned personnel qualify with their assigned weapon, have 95 percent of all crews qualify on their assigned crew-served weapons, have 90 percent of all assigned personnel pass the Army Physical Fitness Test and pass the Organizational Inspection Program in all training categories. Excellence in Training Awards were presented to the following units:
