RICHMOND, Va. –
Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia, made a series of senior leader assignment announcements for command, Virginia National Guard Joint Staff and Virginia Army National Guard Staff positions July 16, July 30 and Aug. 6, 2024.
The following assignments were announced:
Col. Juanita F. Rohler will succeed Col. Dennis Rohler as the commander of the 329th Regional Support Group in a drill status effective Nov. 1, 2024. Col. Dennis Rohler will be reassigned as the G3 Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations in a drill status, and Col. Juanita Rohler will be assigned as the J3 Director of Joint Operations in a full time status.
Col. Gerald A. Mazur will succeed Col. Russell E. McGuire as the commander of 91st Cyber Brigade in a drill status effective Oct. 1, 2024. McGuire will be reassigned as the chief of the Joint Staff.
Col. Kurt K. Kobernik succeeded Col. Paul C. Gravely as the Virginia Army National Guard Chief of Staff effective Aug. 1, 2024. Gravely is now assigned as the J9 Director of Resiliency and will stand up a new directorate focused on service member and family care.
Col. Corey Stavinoha was assigned as the J4 Director of Logistics in a drill status effective Aug. 1, 2024. Stavinoha serves as the G4 Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics in a full-time status.
Col. Chris S. Dunn was assigned as the J5 Director of Plans and Policy in both a full-time and drill status effective Aug. 1, 2024.
Col. James P. Tierney was assigned as the J7 Director of Exercises in a drill status effective Aug. 1, 2024. Tierney succeeds Col. Shawn G. Talmadge who was announced May 29, 2024, as the commander of 29th Division Artillery in a drill status effective Sept. 1, 2024.
Col. Alyssa Y. Astphan was assigned as the G1 Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel in a drill status effective Aug. 1, 2024.
