Quinn announced as next Fort Barfoot garrison commander

 Lt. Col. Eric L. Quinn will succeed Col. James C. Shaver Jr. as the Fort Barfoot garrison commander according to an announcement made Jan. 2, 2025, by Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia. A change of command ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 1 at the Fort Barfoot Theater.

Quinn works full time for the Virginia National Guard as a military technician, and his current duty assignment is the Supply & Services Division chief for the G4 Logistics Directorate. He previously served three years as the officer in charge of the G6 Information Technology Directorate. Quinn also served as the surface maintenance manager and Fort Barfoot Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site superintendent, both in the G4.

Quinn’s current traditional assignment is brigade operations officer for the 329th Regional Support Group in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His previous duty assignments as an officer include platoon leader and executive officer for the 3647th Maintenance Company, the battalion S4 logistics officer for the 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, commander for Bravo Company, 429th Brigade Support Battalion, operations officer for the 429th BSB, support operations office for the 1030th Transportation Battalion, commander of the Virginia Army National Guard Officer Candidate School and commander of the 3rd Battalion, 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute, and deputy G4.

A native of Lunenburg, Virginia, Quinn enlisted in the Virginia Army National Guard as a metal worker in 1996, following graduation from Lunenburg County High School. He spent nine years as an enlisted Soldier prior to commissioning as an Ordnance officer from the Virginia National Guard Officer Candidate School  in 2005. He graduated from Averett University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and received a Master’s in Management and Leadership in 2018 from Liberty University.

Quinn is a graduate of the Ordnance Officer Basic Course and the Logistics Captain’s Career Course. He has also completed the Intermediate Level Education Course and Advanced Operations Course, and is currently enrolled in the U.S. Army War College.
