Moore to succeed Lake as 116th IBCT commander

Col. Arthur S. Moore will succeed Col. Jared D. Lake as the commander of the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team according to an announcement made Jan. 23, 2025, by Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia. Lake’s next assignment as Joint Force Headquarters - Virginia chief of the joint staff was announced Feb. 10. Both assignments are effective July 1.
 
Moore is currently assigned to the Army Staff at the Pentagon full-time and Joint Force Headquarters - Virginia in a part-time traditional National Guard status. He previously served as the 29th Infantry Division G3 operations officer and on the Joint Staff Russia-Ukraine and Central Command Area of Responsibility crisis management teams.
 
Moore is a 2000 graduate of West Point. His 24-year military career includes leadership positions from platoon leader to commander of the Lynchburg-based 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 116th IBCT. He has served in staff assignments at battalion, brigade, division, Army National Guard, Joint Force Headquarters - Virginia, Headquarters - Department of the Army, Joint Staff and Office of the Secretary of Defense.
 
He has deployments to Iraq, Kuwait and Egypt. He also mobilized with Task Force Echo to Fort Meade where he worked with interagency and industry partners on cyberspace operations and electronic warfare. He was a fellow on the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Strategic Studies Group Cohort V, where he developed future warfighting concepts.
 
In his civilian career, Moore was a project manager at TAMKO Building Products, a strategy and operations senior consultant at Deloitte where he supported NSA, CIA and DHS clients and a senior strategic planner at Northrop Grumman.
 
Moore’s military education includes the U.S. Army War College, Intermediate Level Education Common Core and Advanced Operations Courses, Operations Research and Systems Analysis Military Applications Course, Joint Network Attack Course, Defense Strategy Course, U.S. Army Advanced Land Navigation Course, Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Commander’s Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School and Pathfinder School.
