RICHMOND, Va. –
The Virginia National Guard Foundation is an IRS-recognized 501(c)3 charitable organization that provides emergency financial assistance in the form of grants to Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, members of the Virginia Defense Force, Virginia Department of Military Affairs employees and their families in order to enhance their health, safety, well-being and welfare.
According to their web site at
https://vngf.org, the foundation has given out more than half a million dollars to support emergency needs and has helped more than 1,000 VNG and VDF service members, employees and family members.
In 1984, Maj. Gen. John G. Castles, then the Adjutant General of Virginia, formed the Virginia National Guard Foundation to serve as a repository of funds to provide financial assistance for VNG members in their time of need.
After more than 40 years of service, the foundation continues to provide financial assistance to help with emergency housing, utilities, repairs and additional burdens placed on families associated with federal and state deployments.
All funds are received from donations, contributions or in memory of service members.
The Virginia National Guard Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of 25 volunteer members both currently serving and retirees of the Virginia National Guard with more than 900 years of experience supporting service members.
