RICHMOND, Va. –
Visitors to military installations including Fort Barfoot and Defense Supply Center Richmond will need to present a Real ID for access beginning May 7, 2025.
The change is the implementation of the Real ID Act passed by Congress in 2005, which established minimum security standards for state-issued identifications including drivers licenses.
Starting May 7, a Real ID will be required for visitor or contractor access to the VNG’s installations and other secure federal and military installations, as well as for boarding domestic flights.
If a visitor does not have a Real ID, a combinations of acceptable credentials can also be used. Alternate credentials include a passport or a Federal PIV card, or a combination of non-compliant driver’s license and another identification card, such as a Transportation Worker’s ID Card or Veteran Health ID Card.
To determine if your current driver’s license is Real ID compliant, look for a star in the upper right-hand corner of your ID.
