FORT BARFOOT, Virginia –
Col. Beau Mason, Virginia National Guard construction and facilities management officer, Lt. Col. Eric Quinn, Fort Barfoot garrison commander, and retired Col. Everton E. Nevers, the Virginia Department of Military Affairs Chief of Staff, presented awards to DMA workers as part of a state employee recognition luncheon May 22, 2025, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia.
During the presentation, DMA employees were recognized for both agency-level accomplishments, as well as for service anniversaries. Quinn gave remarks during the event, thanking the installation’s state workers for their hard work supporting the VNG and other organizations training at the installation.
“You are the continuity of the Virginia Guard,” Quinn said. “A lot of times Soldiers and federal employees rotate out every two or three years, but state employees are the continuity.
“Since 2001 we have deployed over 18,600 Soldiers and Airmen from the Virginia Guard,” he explained. “We are still deploying like we are at war and the support staff in the rear is supporting that with peacetime funding and peacetime manning.
“We recognize the outstanding employees and the dedication you put forth to provide that continuity,” he said. “I appreciate what you all do for us.”
