VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –
April is Month of the Military Child and the Virginia National Guard Child & Youth Program kicked off the celebration with an event March 28- 29, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
"It was an incredible success," said Bre Vaughan, Child and Youth Program Coordinator. "We had an amazing turnout and the energy from our Virginia National Guard families was truly unmatched."
More than a dozen military children participated in the event, where they had the opportunity to skydive indoors, as well as learn about and experience science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics concepts.
"From the moment families arrived, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, connection, and celebration," Vaughan said. "Events like this really highlight the resilience and strength of our military children while giving families a chance to create lasting memories together. The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive, with many families expressing how much they enjoyed the experience and appreciated the opportunity to participate."
According to the Department of War there are more than 1.6 million military children who face challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents' service.
Every April, the Army National Guard Child and Youth Program proudly celebrates the Month of the Military Child - a time to recognize and honor the resilience, sacrifices, and contributions of military-connected children, according to the ARNCYS website. While military children may not wear a uniform, they serve in their own way, adapting to the challenges and triumphs that come with being part of a military family.
Throughout MOMC, ARNGCYS encourages families, communities and organizations to show appreciation for the military children in their lives.
The Virginia National Guard Child & Youth Program is now preparing for its 21st Annual Youth Camp this July. Registration is now open.
