VNG receives laptop donation for Soldiers

By Mike Vrabel | Virginia National Guard Public Affairs

Mark Casper, president and CEO of Tech for Troops, presented laptop computers to Virginia Army National Guard Soldiers Sept. 2, 2026, at the VNG Sergeant Bob Slaughter Headquarters at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia.

Brig. Gen. Todd H. Hubbard, VNG Director of the Joint Staff, welcomed Casper and accepted the donation.  The donated laptops are intended for Soldiers and their families as a means to stay in contact with each other during any future deployments.

“Tech for Troops has been really a great partner over the years. Thank you so much for what you do, not only for the Guard, but also for the community and the military in general,” said Hubbard. “I think having a good way to communicate and use them these computers to talk with your families and being able to stay online and stay up to date on things that's going to be really helpful.”

“When I was deployed in the Marine Corps in the 1980, we didn’t have computers and stuff,” said Casper. “It was payphones and quarters and ‘You’ve got five minutes!’ This allows you to stay in touch and see your kids grow up when you're gone.”

According to the organization’s website, Tech for Troops is a Richmond-based nonprofit which benefits under-served veterans by teaching and empowering digital skills through training, education and technology.
