RICHMOND, Va. –
Virginia Army National Guard is now offering $20,000 sign-on bonuses for those who enlist into an expanded number of military occupational specialties. Previously, just one MOS qualified for the top-tier $20,000 bonus, while two additional jobs offered smaller bonus amounts. Now, Soldiers who enlist into one of seven career fields may be eligible for the $20,000 bonus.
Expansion of the big bonus benefit means more bonuses for new Soldiers entering into more career fields in more corners of the state.
“I think the most important reason is that more warriors are able to get bonus money in the MOS they truly want for their career, as opposed to settling for a secondary MOS just because they need or want the bonus money,” explained Master Sgt. Paul Johnson, the senior enlisted leader for the Virginia Army National Guard Recruiting & Retention Battalion. He sees the expanded bonus availability as a retention tool, explaining that Soldiers who get an MOS they’re excited about are more likely to continue their military service.
Now through June 30, 2022, the following MOSs are offering $20,000 sign-on bonuses to qualified, non-prior service enlistees:
11B Infantryman
12N Horizontal Construction Engineer
13B Cannon Crewmember
13F Fire Support Specialist
88M Motor Transport Operator
91L Construction Equipment Repairer
92F Petroleum Laboratory Specialist
In addition to MOS bonuses, individuals may be eligible for an off-peak ship bonus for attending training outside the busy summer months, as well as additional benefits including both state and federal tuition assistance, a monthly stipend available to those attending school, and low-cost health, dental and life insurance.
