VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –
Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Virginia Beach-based Headquarters Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group took part in a 5K road race Sept. 11, 2016, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
“It was a nice event for Soldiers to compete as part of the unit’s physical training program and at the same time be a part of the local community’s activities.” said Lt. Col. Matthew Lutz, 529th CSSB commander.
The Soldiers from the 529th were recognized at the start of the race just after a ceremonial moment of silence to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
Sgt. 1st Class Nick Cirillo, company first sergeant, lead the way for the team with a time of 24:35. He indicated that the unit plans to participate in more races in the future to promote esprit de corps among the Soldiers, encourage community involvement and augment the company’s physical training program.
