VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –
The Virginia National Guard officially said goodbye to the 1940th and 1945th Contracting Teams Aug. 10, 2024, during a small ceremony at the 329th Regional Support Group headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
“The Virginia Contracting Teams have been a force multiplier enabling the United States military to execute operations in multiple theaters and the homeland,” said Lt. Col. Nate Seymour, commander of the 1945th CT.
The units’ official divestment date is Aug. 31, 2024.
Federally recognized on July 21, 2009, these small units performed a number of domestic and overseas missions over the past 15 years.
The 1940th deployed to Kuwait in 2021. The 1945th mobilized to Afghanistan in 2014 and Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in 2019.
In addition, select Soldiers supported Headquarters Battalion, 29th Infantry Division in Kuwait in 2016, and mobilized with HHB 29th ID to the U.S. Virgin Islands for disaster relief operations in 2017.
“Virginia consistently filled the roster with knowledgeable and motivated acquisition professionals ready to support both Virginia and the country,” Seymour said. “All the team members were sad to see the teams divest, but we’ve been successful finding new positions for those who wanted to continue serving.”
Each five Soldier team consisted of two officers, and three NCOs. NCOs were required to have the Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Contracting Noncommissioned Officer military occupational specialty. All Soldiers were required to obtain Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certification and credentialing.
