RICHMOND, Va. –
The Virginia National Guard’s 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute will host Pre-Officer Candidate School at Fort Barfoot for Soldiers interested in attending Traditional Officer Candidate School at Fort Barfoot or Summer Accelerated Commissioning Course at Fort McClellan, Alabama.
Soldiers would attend Pre-OCS drill weekends at Fort Barfoot Feb. 28 - March 2, 2025, as well as April 4 - 6 and May 3 - 4 to prepare for the rigors and challenges unique to OCS. Candidates should expect physical and mental challenges that test the ability to excel in basic leadership skills required of a commissioned officer. Must be able to pass ACFT and 6 mile ruck march*
Traditional OCS is a 16 month program that runs from June 14, 2025 to Sept. 13, 2026, executed in IDT status with two annual training periods.
Summer Accelerated OCS is a 57 day course running from June 13 to Aug. 8, 2025. Candidates must attend all Pre-OCS IDT dates and board to be considered for Summer Accelerated OCS.
Any Soldier can attend Pre-OCS in place of unit drill with prior approval by their unit command. Pre-OCS drills will be MUTA 4. Lodging and meals are provided by 183rd RTI.
Minimum requirements:
- GTC Cardholder
- Possess all standard individual equipment (TA-50)
- 110+ GT score
- 90+ college credits (working toward degree)
- Less than 42 years old at commissioning
- Possess a Secret level security clearance
All candidates will take the ACFT during Pre-OCS and are expected to be physically prepared prior to arrival.
