FORT BARFOOT, Va. –
Virginia Department of Military Affairs employees attended a DMA recognition and appreciation holiday luncheon Dec. 11, 2024, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia, as a measure of thanks for their efforts over the course of 2024.
Brig. Gen. Todd Hubbard, the Virginia National Guard Director of the Joint Staff, and retired Col. Everton Nevers, the DMA Chief of Staff, both gave remarks during the event, thanking the DMA staff for their hard work.
“Thanks to you and the work that you do, we’re able to accomplish many of the Adjutant General’s goals and to keep moving DMA forward along with the Army and Air components,” said Hubbard. “Thank you very much for what you’re doing every day to help the training of the Army and to help everything we’re trying to do to accomplish our mission.”
Nevers, who began his tenure as DMA Chief of Staff about one year ago, told his employees how much they’ve helped him as a leader, as well as how well they’ve performed their duties.
“This is my first full year here, and I’m enjoying the ride,” Nevers said. “I did not realize how complex and challenging DMA was. The amount of work and the professionalism and high level of competency that is instilled in this organization. It’s an honor to serve and work with you guys. I ask that you continue to support the effort, because we’re doing great things.”
Following remarks, several DMA employees were recognized for employment anniversaries:
Five years: William Arison, Charles Finke, Matthew Grooms, Cebert Hash, Brenda Holman, Timothy Morini, Sterling Skelton, Brooklan Tanner
10 years: Jason Bragg, Lisa Williams, Carly Wilson

Hubbard and Col. James C. Shaver, the Fort Barfoot garrison commander, also handed out special challenge coins to select employees for their exceptional performances in 2024. After the recognitions, the DMA employees were treated to a catered lunch.
“The DMA employees’ work, often ‘behind the scenes,’ is critical to the success of the Virginia Army and Air National Guard," Nevers said. "On behalf of the Adjutant General, thank you again for another year of high-quality professional work and we look forward to many more years in the future.”
